Clyde Hill homeowner robbed at gunpoint inside garage

Submitted by KOMO Staff on Tuesday, February 23rd, 08:14am

A man was punched, tied up and robbed at gunpoint while working inside his garage on Monday night.

Lt. Kyle Kolling said two men wearing ski masks entered a garage in the 8600 block of NE 28th at approximately 9:30 p.m.

One of the thieves flashed a handgun while the other one punched the homeowner and tied him up using zip ties, Kolling said.

Police said the two men made off with a small safe that was inside the garage. The contents of the safe were not immediately known.

The thieves were seen driving off in a small, dark-colored pickup truck, possibly a Toyota or a Nissan. No further description was available.

The homeowner, a man in his 30s, sustained minor injuries and was treated by medics at the scene.

Kolling said the victim's family members were inside the home at the time, but were not injured and aware of the situation in the garage until it was over.

Woe Canada! scam hits Medina

Submitted by Morris Malakoff on Tuesday, February 9th, 01:06pm

A classic telephone scam has hit Medina, bilking at least two residents out of as much as $4,000 each.

The scam begins when the victim receives a phone call from someone claiming to be a family member (son, daughter, grandchild) or an attorney representing their family member.

The suspect tells the victim their family member has been arrested in Canada for DUI, and bail money or legal fees are needed.  The victim is then directed to a local office of a money wiring firm to wire the funds to Canada.

Frequently the victim will receive another call after they have wired the initial funds, with the suspect telling them more money is needed and the process repeats itself.

The Medina Police Department is currently investigating this scam and working in conjunction with Canadian authorities in the hopes of identifying those responsible.

Police searching Medina cop's cell phone for evidence

Submitted by Morris Malakoff on Tuesday, December 22nd, 09:02am

More developments in the case of the Medina police offics accused in a rape case.

Investigators believe a former Medina police officer accused of raping a woman he met weeks earlier during a traffic stop might have erased cell phone data related to the case, but didn't have a way to recover possible deleted content before he was charged earlier this year.

The SeattlePI.com is reporting that all changed last week.

It says that on Thursday, police obtained a search warrant for the former officer's cell phone to be tracked with software that can recover possible deleted cell phone content, including call history, text messages, images, phonebook entries and videos.

Issaquah police are working with Bellevue officers, who recently acquired the forensic recovery tool, called the CelleBrite Universal Forensics Extraction Device.

Ramierez pleaded not guilty last month to official misconduct with sexual motivation.

Clyde Hill lacrosse coach accused of swindling cash from school

Submitted by Casey Norton on Tuesday, December 15th, 06:29pm

The volunteer treasurer for the Chinook Middle School PTSA is accused of taking more than $50,000 from the non-profit's accounts.

David Glass resigned when he was confronted with evidence that he withdrew large amounts of cash from the PTSA account at First Mutual Bank in Clyde Hille.

In web bios, Glass says he's a financial expert who serves on the board for a dozen corporations and groups.

The Chinook PTSA says that's why the trusted him to be the treasurer.

Angie Lampkin, PTSA President says, "We went down to the bank, and we were shocked to see that what we thought was in the bank was not."

On November 13, the bank told Anne Medzegian the PTSA account had only $403 and there were some unusual transactions.

She says, "I looked at the activity on the account, and I said you need to close this account immediately - just blatant. It was not right."

In a letter to the school, Glass admits he acted out of "sheer personal desperation."

View the court documents in the case »

According to an investigation conducted by the Issaquah Police Department, Ismael Gaston Garcia Ramirez, 30, stopped a car in the 2800 block of Hunt’s Point Road just after 8 p.m.

He had checked the tag on the car and found the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license.

When he stopped the car, the woman driving the car was the registered owner, but protested that she had cleared up the issue with the state and it was a mistake.

Officer Ramirez then searched the car and turned up a miniscule amount of what appeared to be marijuana, the court documents said.
